Chief conductor Kristjan Järvi has a reputation to be one of the " most skillful and innovative programmers of the classical scene“. As a designer of cross-genre projects, he brings an individual attitude and style to bear that turn his concerts into "life-enhancing experiences"- which he also showed at the Kurt-Weill-Fest 2017.
On 24.02.2017 we welcomed people to the 25. Kurt Weill Festival! Since 1993, the festival and the city of Dessau-Roßlau have become one of the most important places for classical modernism. Of course, this had to be celebrated vigorously, in the spirit of Kurt Weill.
His contemporaries reverently called him the "German Socrates" and Lessing continued with him "Nathan the wise" a literary monument: Moses Mendelssohn. The radio play in cooperation with MDR Kultur is accompanied by the pianist Julia Hülsmann – a special experience for the ears.
Great success for a cooperation between the cultural institutions in Saxony-Anhalt: for the first time, all three opera houses in the state took part in the Kurt Weill Fest 2017. The prelude to the cooperation with the Opera House Halle was probably the most important and critical opera from the works by Kurt Weill: rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny.
