The Kurt-Weill-Gesellschaft e.V. (registered society) was foanded on 11 September 1993 in Dessau and has made it its business to" preserve the memory of Kurt Weill in his hometown in every suitable way". The society organises the Kurt Weill Festival on a yearly basis, which by now has evolved into a music festival of classic modernism that receives national attention. Over the past years, many renowned artists such as Ian Bostridge, Rodney Gilfry, HK Gruber, Barbara Hendricks, Dominique Horwitz, Joachim Kühn, Nils Landgren, Esther Ofarim, Max Raabe, Christine Schäfer, Helen Schneider and ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the MDR Radio Choir, the Musikfabrik, the Vogler Quartett or the Tiger Lillies have performed at the Kurt Weill Festival.

Furthermore, the Kurt-Weill-Gesellschaft e.V. develops and realises exhibitions about aspects of Kurt Weill's life and work. An expert advisory board is in charge of organising the conferences and supervising the series published by the Kurt-Weill-Gesellschaft e.V.

Since March 2008, Thomas Markworth is the acting president of the Kurt-Weill-Gesellschaft e.V.
